It’s here – the summer sun has been peeking its head in dribs and drabs and, although we’re (hopefully) yet to see the best of the sunshine this season, it’s time to start making the most of all the things to do in Blackpool this summertime. So, whether we’re forecast yet more rain, or if we’re going to be lathering on the suncream for those brighter days, there’s something for everyone on our northern shores. We’re going to give you the lowdown of all the best summer events in Blackpool. So, strap yourself in for the ride – maybe even the Big One… – let’s get stuck in.

Blackpool Air Show – 13th and 14th August

We’ll begin our guide with one of our much loved favourites. The Blackpool Air Show comes right at the top of the list of being one of the best summer events in Blackpool, for locals and tourists alike. Featuring over two days –  Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th August, this free event sees spectators flocking in their thousands to watch this spectacular air show. With some of the world’s finest military and civilian aircrafts performing over the seafront, featuring the infamous Red Arrows that put on their incredible display year after year. This event is one for the whole family – pack a lunch, bring your picnic blankets and you’re good to go!

Ride the Lights – 27th August

After years of success, this family friendly event returns for its annual parade along the prom. Ride the Lights invites people from across the nation to saddle up and cycle the length of the famous Blackpool Illuminations. It’s truly the best way to experience the annual light-up and, on Tuesday 27th August, you can bring along your friends and family to “Ride the Lights”. You’ll see it all, making it one of the top summer events in Blackpool – the blazing illuminations, crazy fancy dress costumes and, if you’re lucky, even some unicyclists. Again, it’s free to join in, you just need your trusty two wheeler and some good vibes.

A Variety of Shows at Viva

If you’re looking for the perfect spot to be thoroughly entertained, Viva is host to some of the best summer events in Blackpool this year. Being Blackpool’s ultimate show and party venue, Viva knows how to please a crowd and , this summer, they have a host of events to suit everyone. From their ABBA Bottomless Brunch and Take That tributes, all the way through to the 2024 UK Rock Show – so whatever your vibe, you can enjoy it at Viva. Plus, with this indoor venue you can plan your outing knowing that you’re set for the party come rain or shine.

Rebellion Festival – 1st to 4th August

Talking of rock… no, not Blackpool rock (unless you’re partial to boiled candies). Let’s talk punk rock at the Rebellion Festival – the largest independent punk festival in the UK and, this year, it’s taking pride and place as one of the summer events in Blackpool. You and your family can get your punk on – yep, that’s right, this event is a kid-friendly zone too, and even free for under 5’s with an adult ticket. Rebellion is an indoor festival that is held at the Winter Gardens – so that you have everything you need under one roof –  cafes, bars and entertainment, so that you can leave your umbrellas at home.

World Fireworks Championships – September and October

Blackpool brings a world renowned pyrotechnic extravaganza to the seaside every year and  2024 is no different. Being one of the most anticipated summer events in Blackpool, the annual World Fireworks Championships light up the northern skies in a magical display for all to see.

With the first round of displays starting late summer on Saturday 7th September you can add this to your list of things to do in Blackpool this summer. Then, the second heat takes place on 21st September then the grand finale will be held on Saturday 5th October. You can perch on the front with your friends and family and gather to watch the competition unfold.
